APRIL Newsletter

Hello Everybody!

Things have really started to heat up, so please forgive the delay in sending out the newsletter this month.  I've been going 24/7 lately!

"Even if you take every reefer madness allegation of the prohibitionists at face value, marijuana prohibition has done far more harm to far more people than marijuana ever could."

William Buckley, Jr.

Fear and Loathing in Nevada Co

First, the Board of Supervisors voted to acknowledge Collective Cultivation at their last meeting.  That's the good news.  The bad news is that they have refused to give us one extra inch of space to grow medicine for additional collective members.  However, Judge Dowling may not look to kindly on their attempt to circumvent his previous ruling that said Collectives are legal under CA State law.

This could work in our favor when we our trial begins.

Speaking of Court, we will be before Judge Dowling on April 22 when a settlement conference is scheduled.  It is entirely conceivable (but not probable) that Judge Dowling will order both parties to try mediation to resolve our differences.

Stay tuned...

We are trying to get on the schedule to make a presentation before the Board of Supervisors so our attorney can present our survey that shows over 70% of respondents sided with us against the Cannabis Cultivation Ordinance.

We hope for this to happen in May, after we get a ruling from the CA Supreme Court on the City of Riverside v The Inland Empire case.

Their ruling is expected by May 5 and will determine whether cities/counties can ban dispensaries and cultivation or simply regulate where they can be located.

Our position is that even if they rule in favor of local jurisdictions, it doesn't mean officials can do whatever THEY want.

They still need to listen to their constituents.  And it is becoming clear to me that the majority of residents in Nevada County want to ditch the current ordinance.

Sheriff Terrorizes Kids at NUHS

I suppose you've all heard about the undercover drug bust at NUHS?

I believe Sheriff Royal planned this raid to make it appear that there is a MAJOR drug problem.

I have a bad feeling that he will use this incident to demand a total ban on outdoor cultivation to "protect our children."

A big Anti-Drug meeting is scheduled for April 18 at the Holiday Express Inn 3:30pm.

It is really important that people from our side attend to present a different point of view than the propaganda that is going to flung this meeting.

If any of you have children enrolled at the school, I really urge you to attend.

The Cannabis Crusades | Radio Talk Show

Our popular radio show, "The Cannabis Crusades," returns on Friday,

April 12 from 12 noon to 2:00pm.

The is membership pledge week so I hope that all of our supporters will tune in (89.5fm) and make a pledge to keep this show on the air.

So far, ASA-NC members have contributed $1,000 and we hope to see that number grow to new heights.

We will be offering some great incentives so call early to get the best selections of gifts.

The studio call in number is 530-265-9555.

We have some really great guests lined up too!

Judge Jim Gray will discuss the rise of the industrial prison complex and how it has contributed to the War on Drugs.

Then we have Martin Lee, founder of Project CBD, and author of a new book called, "Smoke Signals."

Next up is Dr. Dale Geiringer who will discuss the proposed zero-tolerance DUID law and how current drug tests do not measure impairment; they can only detect the presence of metabolites that show one has used a drug at some point in time (sometimes weeks earlier).

Our last guest, Trisha Albright, is facing twenty years for Collective cultivation and will be discussing her pending case.  Her story is a real heartbreaker.

Chocolate Class

Scott Wellman is sharing his expertise with ASA members by teaching a class in creating infused gourmet chocolate edibles.  Scott has worked with chocolates for twenty years and has a vast amount of knowledge to share.  As the cannabis market gains legitimacy, there will be opportunities for entrepreneurs to start new businesses.  We encourage everyone to expand their skills to prepare for the changing market.
